Harbir K. Bhatia, CEO of the Silicon Valley Central Chamber of Commerce, said the success of the U.S. technology sector is largely due to the contributions of Indian experts.
In an interview with PTI, Bhatia emphasized that Indians have played a pivotal role in driving innovation in the world-famous Silicon Valley technology hub. “Indians are one of the biggest leaders in innovation in Silicon Valley. At one point, data showed that 40 percent of CEOs and founders in Silicon Valley were of South Asian or Indian origin. “That's a huge number,” she said.
Mr. Bhatia emphasized that the remarkable achievements of Indian professionals in the US technology industry are no mere coincidence. “They're either at the CXO level or the CEO. That's not a coincidence,” she added.
Bhatia attributes their success to the strong work ethic and unwavering drive for excellence instilled by Indian culture, saying, “If you get 98 percent in school, mom and dad will always say so.'' But why didn't you get it?'' That's our culture. That's not enough. That craving and desire is what separates us. ”
The CEO of the chamber also praised the resourceful 'jugaad' approach that Indian experts bring to solving problems, saying, “If you have a problem, you can find a solution if you hit the digi.'' I guess so.''
Mr. Bhatia highlighted the symbiotic relationship between Silicon Valley and India, with a significant portion of outsourcing operations based in the South Asian country.
“High-tech industries can thrive in the US because we can achieve a 3:1 model, meaning one US employee can cover the costs of three Indian employees,” she explained.
“Who's running all the operations? Who's keeping all the lights on? The bread and butter of every tech company is, in some way, our troops, our communities. They cannot live without us,'' Bhatia argued.
She acknowledged India's efforts to restrict visas for professionals, attributing it to their extraordinary abilities, saying, “There's a reason why they want to continue to restrict visas. They just have to put restrictions in place because they know we're very healthy, otherwise they'll just restrict visas.” , we can undertake all the work. ”
