NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Harding baseball team defeated Arkansas Tech University 5-1 on Thursday to advance to the championship berth in the Great American Conference Tournament at Dickey Stevens Park.
In the first inning, Maddox Long broke Harding's career strikeout record, breaking Phil Gisele's record of 257 strikeouts between 1998 and 2001. Long finished the game with three strikeouts, reaching his career total of 260 strikeouts.
The Bisons will play Arkansas vs. Monticello at 11 a.m. Friday at Dickey Stevens Park.
Third-seeded Harding improved to 36-15 on the season, while second-seeded Arkansas Tech fell to 35-17.
GAC Pitcher of the Year Maddox Long delivered the win for Harding, making it 6-1 on the season. He pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out three. Javier Lobo popped out of the pen to make his second save of the season. Lobo pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up no runs.
Nathan Bowie led Harding to the plate, going 2-for-4 with two hits and two RBIs.

Harding junior catcher Sebastian Martinez started the scoring for Harding in the second inning with a solo home run into the right field seats. It was his eighth home run of the season.
Arkansas Tech took the mound in the bottom of the fourth inning due to a defensive error by Harding.
