BLACKSBURG – The No. 15 Virginia Tech softball team secured its fifth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and earned the No. 2 seed in the Los Angeles region, as announced on ESPN2 Sunday evening.
The Hokies (39-12-1) begin their 2024 NCAA Softball Championship journey on Friday, May 17 against San Diego State (31-18) in Los Angeles. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm ET on ESPNU.
UCLA, ranked No. 6 overall, will host Grand Canyon in the other half of the regional slot Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Hokies vs Tournament Field
The double-elimination regional tournament concludes Sunday, May 19, and the 2024 Los Angeles Regional winner will face the Athens Regional winner in the NCAA Super Regional Round May 24-26. The winner of the super regional round will advance to the Women's College World Series, which will be held in Oklahoma City from Thursday, May 30 to Friday, June 7.
Under the leadership of head coach Pete D'Amour, Tech boasts an 11-5 record in regional league play and a 23-20 overall record.
Tech is used to playing on UCLA's campus, last playing there during the 2021 Super Regionals.
