Over the past few days, increased solar activity (and intense geomagnetic storms) has caused outages in the GPS navigation systems that guide some of the newest tractors from John Deere and other brands. 404 Media reports that farmers have been told to suspend the use of high-tech tractors that use GPS systems to program and plow the land. The real-time kinematic (RTK) system on John Deere tractors appears to be able to plant with centimeter accuracy. A little bit of GPS noise can throw it off.
