Provencher's riding will look a little different in the next federal election.
MP Ted Falk said the change is in response to the tremendous population growth in southeastern Manitoba.
“We have a lot of growing communities. If you look at Steinbach, Niverville, Oakbank, Lorette, Ile-des-Chênes, all of those communities are really growing and as a result, I Our population is growing, and some of the other constituencies around us are not growing as much.
He says this border readjustment will help equalize the population of each riding.
“They're trying to maintain a population base of about 100,000 people per federal riding. And that's what they're trying to do. They're going to get us back closer to 100,000 people. Right now. I think it's about 120,000 people.”
Faulk said the boundary readjustment would result in Provencher losing a large portion of Springfield's municipal government.
The southern edge of the municipality remains in Provencheles, but the Dugald area becomes part of the Elmwood-Transcona River and the Oakbank area joins the Kildonan-St. Louis River. Paul is on board.

“Some people see this in a very positive way,” he says. “There would actually be three MPs representing the municipality, otherwise you wouldn't know who to ask. I mean, I think there are people on both sides of that fence. But you know… The MPs I work with are very committed to their constituents and will be equally committed to these areas, so I'm confident that everyone will be well taken care of. .”
The Kildonan-St. Paul riding is represented by Conservative MP Raquel Dancho, while the Elmwood-Transcona riding is represented by NDP MP Daniel Blaikie, who serves as senior intergovernmental affairs advisor to Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew. He is no longer a member of the Diet due to his resignation.
A by-election will be held to fill this seat. Date must be announced by September 29, 2024. Falk points out that Springfield residents will not participate in this special election because the entire city of Springfield will remain in Provenchers until a federal election is advertised.
The 45th Canadian federal election will be held by October 20, 2025. The new map will take effect as soon as the federal election is advertised.
