Position: Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Opinion
Reports to: Opinion Editor and Editor-in-Chief
Contract period: June 3, 2024 to August 31, 2024
Expected working hours: 5 hours per week
Position summary:
The Associate Opinion Editor is responsible for assisting the Opinion Editor with the operation and organization of the Opinion section.
Associate Opinion Editors must at all times conduct their work in accordance with the Gateway Student Journalism Association Bylaws and the Gateway Student Journalism Association Code of Conduct.
Duties and responsibilities:
Work with opinion editors to ensure that the issues of interest are covered in the opinion section. Create a weekly suggestion list for use during volunteer meetings where opinion editors solicit content. Help brainstorm ideas for regular columns in this section. Please help us cover campus events. Opinion editors train volunteers and help them provide initial constructive feedback and edits on their work. Write her at least one article a week in the opinion section. Performs other position-related duties as requested by the Opinion Editor and/or Editor-in-Chief.
Qualifications:
During each fall and winter session following your term in this position, you will be required to enroll in at least one equivalent course for credit at the University of Alberta. From 2023 he must be a Gateway Her volunteer who has written at least one article to the publication year 2024. You need in-depth knowledge of the “Opinion” section, including what types of articles are published and what they cover. Must be able to consistently meet a 5 hour weekly commitment. Must have basic computer skills. Must be able to deal effectively with society, university staff, students, and the general public.
