After several tough summers, BC Ferries is promising this year's travel season will be much smoother than previous years.
Darren Johnston, vice president of marine operations in charge of ferry services, said the company's vessels are in good condition and BC Ferries has added staff.
“The risk of flight cancellations or service interruptions due to crew issues is significantly lower this year than last year,” he said in an update on Wednesday. “And especially in the last year, when we faced some very significant challenges in this area.”
Mr Johnston said the vessel, which had been grounded due to mechanical issues, was now back in service.
“We have made changes since last year to ensure that all 37 vessels are ready to sail for the peak season in June this year,” he said.
He added that BC Ferries will complete its annual refit about three weeks ahead of schedule, giving it plenty of time to respond to any unplanned issues that arise.
“We are ready to ensure that our fleet is as reliable as possible after the season ends. [for] The beginning of the summer busy season.
“If something goes wrong during the busy season, we are ready to deal with it.”
Johnston said this should be BC Ferries' smoothest season yet, adding he knows customers have high expectations for ferry service.
