The U.S. State Department on Friday issued a “global alert” alert, warning U.S. nationals abroad that “the potential for foreign terrorist organization-inspired violence against LGBTQI+ people and events is increasing.” warned to take precautions.
The warning comes after the FBI and Homeland Security said foreign terrorist groups could try to exploit “LGBTQIA+-related events and venues,” including Pride Month events in 2024, according to government officials familiar with the matter. It is said to be related to a recent announcement by the Ministry of Security. It starts in June.

The warning comes on the same day the State Department commemorates the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia.
Last year's Pride Month focused on safety, after the Department of Homeland Security released a report warning that the threat of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community from domestic violence extremists and those who commit hate crimes has increased in recent years. Concerns were also evident.
LGBTQ advocacy groups have declared a “state of emergency” in the United States following a record wave of anti-LGBTQ laws and a spike in reports of hate incidents.
The State Department's warning also calls for increased vigilance for Americans traveling due to the possibility of more generalized terrorist attacks, demonstrations, and acts of violence “against U.S. citizens and interests.”
