Microsoft has announced a suite of new AI features, and one of them has caught the interest of many people. A feature called Recall basically helps a Windows user plan her next move by providing a pass with her previous web and PC activities. Microsoft pointed out that the technology continues to take screenshots of your PC and uses AI technology to provide the best results.
But this is worrying people. Elon Musk, in particular, called the feature “an episode of Black Mirror.” Black Mirror is a popular science fiction show that depicts a dystopian future for humanity on Earth.
He even said that he would “definitely turn off this feature” regarding Recall, which will be available on Windows on new Copilot+ PCs coming to market in the near future. The company says that the Copilot+ PC will be equipped with 16GB RAM. His Copilot key and advanced hardware technology to run AI applications.
Microsoft recall raises concerns
Copilot + PC extends this integration even further, including a new feature called Recall. According to Microsoft, this tool helps people find items, files, and even search activity on his PC itself.
The company hopes that users will be able to delegate any task to these AI PCs, and in the future, these AI assistants will guide them through the next steps of their projects and commands. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also said Recall will remember and understand everything you do on your computer by taking regular screenshots.

Nadella noted that the data is processed on-device and only works in the Microsoft Edge browser, but the concerns raised by Musk and many others are valid nonetheless. After all, technology companies have a history of breaking their promises, and as far as we know, advances in AI will prevent these companies from adhering to the necessary privacy norms for the foreseeable future. It can be difficult.
Regulators also expect Microsoft to monitor recalls that are fully operational through its own ecosystem and do not open up other third-party apps that could be linked to Microsoft's control. Questions should be raised.
