Italy has issued a warning about an active volcano and updated its travel advisory for people heading to other parts of the country.
This is a piece of ongoing advice as bushfires can pose a risk to life.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said some areas pose a greater risk to visitors than others as advisories on active volcanoes are updated.
“Southern Italy is home to several active volcanoes. The national emergency plan has been updated for Vesuvius and the Phlegraean Field, which remains active and where an earthquake occurred in 2024,” the agency said.

It added that Britons caught up in the disturbance should follow instructions from local authorities.

The FCDO added: “Bushfires will become a danger as the summer months continue. They are highly dangerous and unpredictable.”
“If you are considering traveling to an affected area, please check the latest alerts and weather forecasts and follow the advice of local authorities. If you are visiting or driving in woodland areas please Please exercise caution and call emergency services in the event of a fire.”
Some locations are safer than others, but Brits can contact the FCDO for the latest guidance on the country they are visiting.
This follows advice for Brits traveling to Turkey as some areas are now off-limits due to 'elevated risk'.
The British government advised people not to go to the Syrian border. Furthermore, the FCDO advises against traveling within 10km of the border with Syria. In Syria, fighting continues in areas close to the Turkish border, and the risk of terrorism remains high in the region. ” he added.

Holidaymakers are also advised to refrain from non-essential travel to the city of Şurnak and Hakkari province due to the “increased risk of terrorism.”

The FCDO added: “Mount Ararat in Ari Governorate is a special military area. Permits must be obtained from the Dubayezid Government Office and fees must be paid at the local governor's office.”
“If you are visiting with a travel agency or tour group, please check whether separate permits are required.
“Please use particular caution when traveling to the area. Please keep up to date with local media and follow the advice of local authorities.”
