AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – According to AAA, 44 million people are expected to travel during the Memorial Day weekend holiday.
This is at least the second-highest Memorial Day traffic forecast ever since AAA began predicting travel numbers.
As always, most Memorial Day travelers will be on the highways, so expect increased traffic congestion, crowded roadside restaurants, higher gas prices and increased traffic to cell towers.
But don't worry. Here are some technical tips to make your journey smoother.
First, download these essential apps:
GasBuddy: This app helps you find the cheapest gas stations near you. Easy to use and provides accurate real-time pricing. Waze: Forget Apple Maps. Waze is your go-to navigation app for road trips. It offers real-time traffic information, accident reporting, and even fun audio options for kids. iExit: This app is popular with RVers. See on a map what's available at each exit. For example, if you decide to “settle down” at a restaurant because you don't know what else is out there, iExit will show you what's waiting at the next few exits.
Next, pack your next gadget.
Earphones or headset: Keep your passengers entertained and avoid driving distractions in the back seat. Fast charger: USB ports in cars are slow. A fast charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter is a must to keep your devices powered up. Portable battery pack: These are a lifesaver if you need to charge multiple devices.
Finally, here are some tips about cell phone dead zones. Tell everyone to turn on airplane mode for his one second and then turn it off. This will force your phone to find the nearest cell tower and usually resolves the issue.
With these tech travel tips, you’ll be all set for a great Memorial Day road trip.
