Western Colorado's media landscape is getting a boost with the recent appointment of CMU digital filmmaking technology lecturer Josh Meuwly as the regional liaison for the Grand Junction Film Commission. This collaboration between Colorado Mesa University and the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media, an organization under the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), will help elevate the film industry in western Colorado.
With extensive experience in the film and media industry, Mr Muhly will take up this crucial role in November 2023. The appointment highlights the region's emerging potential as a hub supporting the needs of the film, media and television sector and ensuring collaboration between universities, states and various stakeholders.
“Community liaisons serve as valuable bridges connecting Colorado’s film office with local communities, resources and diverse landscapes,” said Film Commissioner Donald Zuckerman.
In his position as OEDIT’s Western Colorado regional liaison, Meuwly aims to share his expertise with content creators, filmmakers and media professionals in the region.

The Grand Junction Film Commission plays a key role in assisting filmmakers with obtaining permits, identifying locations, and connecting with crew and support services.
As a community liaison, Muhly has partnered with Downtown Grand Junction to bring various film location scouts to the Grand Valley to offer tours of the area's unique landscape, and he's also spearheading discussions for the long-awaited return of the GJ Film Festival.
As part of its commitment to the local filmmaking community, the Grand Junction Film Commission actively seeks to expand its local staff and talent pool, which aligns with the Commission's mission to support and connect professionals within the region. Additionally, special documentary productions are on the horizon, providing an opportunity for CMU Tech students to participate and gain valuable experience.
With Western Colorado's burgeoning film industry taking off and Muhly at the helm of the Grand Junction Film Commission, Western Colorado is quickly becoming a canvas for cinematic dreams to unfold.
