Authorities are urging travelers before and after the Olympics to be aware of their surroundings in public places.
The Canadian government is warning travellers to France this summer of the increased risk of terrorism.
Many locals will be heading to Paris in July for the 2024 Summer Olympics, and flights from Vancouver to Paris start at just $394 one-way.
But France has seen “several opportunistic or planned attacks” over the past few years, resulting in deaths and injuries, and the government has warned that “further attacks are likely.”
On March 24, the French Prime Minister raised the security threat level in the Vigipillate plan to “attack emergency,” the highest level in the plan. The government did so in response to the terrorist attack in Moscow that was claimed by the Islamic State.
The Canadian government is advising tourists to be aware of their surroundings in public places, including during the Olympics, which run from July 26 to August 11, and to “exercise particular caution at public gatherings and demonstrations.”
Public events will begin on May 8th and continue throughout the Games and the Paralympics, from August 28th to September 8th.
