Real Madrid legends also congratulated Mbappé on his transfer, with David Beckham and Sergio Ramos sharing his joy. “Congratulations, my friend. More exciting times are to come,” said Beckham, while Ramos, Mbappé's former team-mate at PSG, added: “Welcome, brother.”

After Ronaldo broke the record, Page responded humorously in a TikTok video, saying that Ronaldo “broke 4.5 million hearts.” He joked, “Our poor baby was 5 months old and didn't even have a chance to grow up before he was brutally murdered by this man. They say he even squirted at the time,” alluding to Ronaldo's infamous goal celebration.

As well as Instagram, Mbappé's post was mentioned over 610,000 times across X, Thread (formerly Twitter), YouTube and Reddit in the three days following the news. Famed sports journalist Fabrizio Romano had been covering the transfer's developments throughout April and May. He confirmed the deal on June 2, the day before Mbappé's official announcement, with his trademark “Here we go” tweet.
