LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – Stronger Together Cancer Foundation and Laredo Regional Food Bank have partnered to launch the Nourishing Warriors program, an initiative aimed at providing essential nutrition to patients undergoing cancer treatment by distributing food boxes tailored to their needs.
Founder Raul Reyes emphasizes that cancer takes a toll on patients, both mentally and physically. The goal of this program is to alleviate the additional burden of worrying about what to eat during treatment. The program will target 50 patients battling cancer, ensuring they have proper nutrition.
Joan Sepulveda, a breast cancer survivor, testifies to the program's impact. Even after going into remission, she continues to face challenges related to her disease. The food boxes provided by the Foundation have been a blessing, supporting her emotionally, spiritually and financially.
“What they're providing us right now is a source of nutrition that not all of us have access to or know about. It's helped us a lot and eased some of the financial burden on our family,” Sepulveda explained.
Beneficiaries and their families praise the partnership between the Foundation and the Laredo Area Food Bank, as they work together to keep cancer survivors nourished and hopeful for a future where a cure will be found.
Reyes said one of the foundation's long-term goals is to provide free mammograms to anyone who needs them. The partnership will run from June 1 to May 31, 2025.
