The provincial government says a centre providing mental health and addiction services will soon open on the West Shore.
The center offers same-day walk-in or phone counseling and assessments five days a week.
“Mental health and addiction issues can happen to anyone, and as our communities grow, so does the need for reliable care close by,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions.
“The hub will bring together mental health and addictions services to support individuals and families where they live, making it easier for people to get all the care they need, when and where they need it.”
The centre will be staffed by professionals from a range of fields, including psychiatry, addiction medicine, nursing, counselling, occupational therapy and peer support.
“By providing community services for mild to moderate mental health and addiction needs and connecting those with more advanced needs to specialized care, we are creating a coordinated and effective system of care,” said Leah Hollins, Island Health's board chair.
The center is expected to open at 681 Allandale Road in Colwood later this year, although the province has not set a specific date.
