CHARLOTTE (Queen City News) – The official start of summer is still a long way off and many people are still in vacation mode.
This year's top travel destinations include the usual suspects like Orlando, Las Vegas, Paris and Hawaii, but what about less conventional places like the edge of space?
A company is now accepting reservations for a one-of-a-kind trip. If you're ready to make space history, try what is said to be the most accessible spaceflight experience. Billed as gentle and comfortable, the trip will take you to the edge of space without G-forces, rockets, burning boosters on your butt, required training, or strict health requirements.
Company officials say if you're healthy enough to fly, you can board the Neptune spacecraft, a pressurized capsule slowly lifted by a space balloon the size of a football stadium.
It's for the public, and it's made possible by Space Perspectives, the world's first and only carbon-neutral spaceflight experience company, whose mission is driven by a desire to share the transformative power of space travel with as many people as possible, according to their website.
The pressurized capsule can accommodate up to eight passengers and one pilot. Amenities include a space spa, luxury restrooms, a full bar, world-class dining, the largest windows on a spacecraft, and plush safety seats. The six-hour flight takes you to the edge of space and back again in a luxurious space lounge for the trip of a lifetime. You'll ascend slowly at 12 miles per hour, taking two hours to a maximum altitude of 100,000 feet, where you'll float for another two hours before a two-hour gentle descent to land on the calm ocean surface, where you'll be greeted by your spacecraft.
The cost? $125,000 per seat.
A refundable $1,000 deposit will secure your seat, and flights will begin in 2025.
