NEW DELHI: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes office for the third time, India-US bilateral talks will begin here on Monday while US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will meet his National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on June 17 and 18 in the second round of the much-awaited Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET).

According to a senior government official, the main meeting of the iCET will be held tomorrow and will focus on reviewing all the projects considered at the Washington meeting on January 31, 2023, including technology transfer of GE-414 jet engine for the Tejas Mark II fighter jets.

G7 talks participants said both Modi and Biden have a clear interest in advancing bilateral ties amid the threat of Chinese expansionism in the Indo-Pacific region.

In fact, a US team has already visited India to negotiate the sale of 31 MQ9B armed Predator drones to India. Similarly, a French team is negotiating a deal for 26 Rafale Maritime fighter jets for the Indian Navy's Vikrant. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Paris on June 20 and 21 to meet National Security Advisor Emmanuel Bonne and his military counterparts to deepen military ties.
At the iCET meeting tomorrow, National Security Advisor Doval and National Security Advisor Sullivan are expected to discuss the draft of a new bilateral defence industrial cooperation roadmap to accelerate technological collaboration between the two countries for joint development and production of jet engines, loitering munitions and other systems.

Another issue under consideration is building a resilient semiconductor supply chain in India through a joint venture. Other issues under discussion include space cooperation, quantum computing and next-generation communications.
