HYDERABAD: As part of the ongoing drive against food safety violations, the Telangana State Food Safety Department on Sunday conducted searches at private hostels and paying guesthouses (PG) in Madhapur.Sri Lakshmi PG Hostel, Kavri Hills, VG Homestay, Narayana Medical Academy and Narayana Society Hostel in Madhapur were found to be violating food safety norms.
Narayana Medical Academy in Madhapur was operating without FSSAI approval, there were no FOSTAC supervisors among the staff, water dispensers were rusty and the water distribution area was dirty, Telangana Food Safety Commissioner said.
At Narayana Society, Madhapur, expired white gravy (2 kg) and minced masala (2 kg) were found. Like at the Medical Academy, there were no FOSTAC supervisors among the staff. The dosa pans were unhygienic and rusty and the kitchen area showed multiple hygiene issues including a messy grinding area with high risk of contamination. Open drains, garbage area and washing area were also found to be unhygienic.
VG Homestay, a PG in Madhapur, was also found to be operating without FSSAI permission and using food colours. The dosa tawa was rusty and the raw materials and vegetables were in unhygienic condition. The refrigerator was unhygienic and the staff were not wearing hairnets. Spot checks of drinking water, vinegar, chilli sauce and tomato sauce showed values ​​within acceptable limits. However, samples of chilli powder were taken on suspicion of adulteration.
Similarly, Sri Lakshmi PG hostel in Kavri Hills was operating without an FSSAI licence. Cauliflower and cruciferous vegetables were infested with pests, dosa pans were rusty, the work area was unhygienic and rice, pulses and mattresses were improperly stored.
