Students at Washburn University and Washburn Institute of Technology can expect tuition costs to increase even more next school year.
The Washburn University Board of Trustees unanimously approved two tuition increases: Washburn tuition will increase by 3.85 percent and Washburn Tech tuition will increase by 4 percent.
How much is tuition at Washburn University and Washburn Institute of Technology?
At Washburn University, tuition will increase from $338 to $351 per credit. For a full-time, 15-credit term, the cost will go from $5,070 to $5,265.
Tuition at Washburn University will increase from $152 to $158 per credit. For a 15-credit term, the cost will go from $2,280 to $2,370.
Washburn Tech hasn't increased tuition in the past two years, said Lori Hutchinson, Washburn's executive director of strategic communications and marketing. Hutchinson said the increase will allow the university to recoup its costs after two years of flat tuition rates.
How are other Kansas universities doing with tuition?
Several Kansas universities requested tuition increases on May 15.
The University of Kansas proposed a 3.5% fee increase, following a 5% increase last year. Kansas State University sought a 2.8% fee increase, following a 5% increase last year. Wichita State University proposed a 3.9% fee increase, following a 5.9% increase last year. Emporia State University sought a 4% fee increase, following a 5% increase last year. Pittsburg State University proposed a 3.5% fee increase, following a 5% increase last year. Fort Hays State University sought a 6% fee increase, following a 7% increase last year.
The Kansas Board of Regents is scheduled to further discuss and vote on those universities' tuition increase requests on Thursday.
