Pet food production in Asia Pacific is expected to grow by 2.41% in 2023, continuing a trend driven by increased pet ownership and urbanization in the region. According to the Pet Food Industry Top Pet Food Companies Database, this growth will see 11 pet food companies in Asia exceeding US$100 million in annual revenue in 2023. The majority of these companies, seven of them, were based in Japan.
1. Unicharm Corporation
Japan $920 million – Unicharm's pet care subsidiary has long dominated the Japanese market, and since acquiring a majority stake in Hartz in 2011, the global company has continued to expand its presence in Asia, the US and emerging markets.
2. Inaba Pet Food
Japan $871 million Inaba Pet Food operates manufacturing facilities in Japan and a subsidiary, Qingdao Foods, which has its own manufacturing facility in China. Inaba Foods USA distributes a wide range of branded foods and treats in the United States.
3. Perfect Companion Group Co., Ltd.
Thailand US$674 million Perfect Companion is the only pet food company owned by Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Group and claims to be the first pet food manufacturer in Thailand to receive ISO 9002 certification.
4. Jailfeed
South Korea's $535 million Jeil Feed produces 1.4 million tonnes of animal feed annually, focusing on dog food for the pet food market. The company is owned by South Korean poultry producer Harim Group.
5. ITAIR Co., Ltd.
Thailand US$424.9 million Thai Union Group Public Company Limited is a global seafood manufacturer that also operates in the pet food business. Its subsidiary i-Tail manufactures and exports canned tuna and pet food, and its subsidiary US Pet Nutrition LLC manufactures and sells premium pet food. Thai Union Group also holds a 25% stake in Lucky Union Foods Co. Ltd.
6. Petline Co., Ltd.
Japan US$190 million Petline is owned by Nippon Nosan Kogyo, which is wholly owned by Mitsubishi Corporation. Petline claims to be the first company in Japan to manufacture dry cat food in 1972. Petline's products range from standard pet food to veterinary diets for both cats and dogs.
7. MG Group
Japan US$187 million MG Group (formerly Marukan Group) owns two large pet food divisions, Marukan and Sunrise. Marukan manufactures a wide range of pet products of all kinds, including dog and cat treats and small mammal food.
8. Doggyman AA Co., Ltd.
Japan USD 162.16 million Doggyman is a Japanese company that manufactures pet food and pet supplies. Doggyman owns Doggy Foods, which specializes in the production of dog food for humans at two manufacturing facilities in Japan.
9. Maruha Nichiro Co., Ltd.
Japan US$135 million Maruha Nichiro Corporation is headquartered in Tokyo and has approximately 160 subsidiaries and affiliates in the fields of seafood, food processing, chemical food, overseas joint ventures, aquaculture and livestock feed.
10. Ryder Pet Food
Turkey US$122.5M Lider Petfood was established in 2009 in Salil. The production capacity is 220,000 tonnes per year. The company operates two different manufacturing facilities in the same industrial zone.
11. Nippon Pet Food Co., Ltd.
Japan USD 105 million Nippon Pet Food is a privately held pet food manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, currently focusing on the Japanese, Asian and Southeast Asian markets. The company has expanded into food for dogs, cats, birds and small animals, but its original products for fish remain its mainstay.
