Det'on Cho Management has acquired local food distributor Northbest Distributors Limited.
Northbest is a general distributor for the foodservice industry, supplying stores, restaurants, mining camps and facilities throughout the region since 1999.
Mark Lewis is president and CEO of Deton Cho Management, the growing financial arm of Yellowknife Dene First Nation.
“Part of our strategy right now is diversification. As we all know, diamond mines are going out of business.
“So a lot of our revenue, both now and in the past, is tied to diamond mining. So we’re looking at different industries, different opportunities, but also ones that fit into our current model,” he told CKLB.
“Again, there is a link with the mining industry in this regard, but they are not completely dependent on it. They also have a catering business (Det'on Cho Bouwa Whee Catering LP) so we know that they are not only sourcing food but also transporting food to the north, basically as logistics.”
Lewis said no job cuts are planned at Deton Cho Northvest Distributors Inc. “Our plan is not to go in and shake things up,” and that the Northvest team will continue to operate out of the Old Airport Road facility.
