HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The summer solstice is Thursday, but summer vacation travel is already well underway.
According to the TSA, air travel is breaking records, with Sunday, June 16, being the ninth-busiest travel day on record.

On Sunday, the TSA screened more than 2.85 million people. In total, seven of the top 10 busiest days were in 2024.
“Travel volumes are definitely back to pre-pandemic levels,” said Clay Ingram of AAA Alabama.
He said as the number of people travelling increases, so does the number of people willing to shell out cash for their dream holidays.
“Most people are willing to make significant sacrifices in other areas to make that trip happen,” he said.
But if you want to save as much as possible, there are ways to be smart when booking, and Ingram recommends using a travel agent.

“They know where the deals and the bargains are,” he says. “They know when fares are lower, where you can go for a little cheaper, flights arriving and departing on certain days, sometimes at certain times of the year, all that stuff.”
He said using a AAA travel agent is free and you don't have to be a AAA member to use it.
“It saves you stress, it saves you hassle and usually saves you a little money too,” he added.
Ingram also recommends planning your trip as far in advance as possible to ensure you get the best deal possible, but if you're late with your vacation plans, it's not too late – just be careful not to get fooled by deals that seem too good to be true.
The Better Business Bureau recommends that if you're looking for deals online, avoid typing phrases like “deal” into your search engine, as doing so could bring up scam websites, according to the BBB.
