The Grande Prairie Public Library has been awarded $10,000 from a TELUS Community Board grant to go towards the Learn to Tech project.
“The Learn to Tech project provides an opportunity to purchase new programming laptops, allowing GPPL to continue offering our existing programs in the future,” says Corey Chernuka, Network Manager for Grande Prairie Public Library. “We also hope to expand our program offerings, such as content creation (video/audio) and coding-based courses. These programs not only provide hands-on training and education for all, but also have a direct impact on those who face economic barriers in our community, such as disadvantaged youth.”
To date, GPPL has used the programming laptops to support a variety of programs and classes, including English for Ukrainians, graphic design and writing workshops, and career planning and resume-building sessions.
“We're so grateful to Telus for the opportunity to offer more technology programming to our community,” said Grande Prairie Public Library Director Hayley McCullough. “It's important for libraries to work to close the digital divide, and that's exactly what we plan to do with the technology programming we're able to offer as a result of the Learn to Tech project.”
TELUS Community Board Grants focus on supporting young people up to age 29 who have barriers to reaching their full potential through funding health/education initiatives.
The “Learn to Tech” project will launch at GPPL this fall.
