New York to restrict kids' 'addictive' social media feeds
New York's governor has signed a bill that would allow parents to block their children from seeing social media posts suggested by platforms' algorithms, a measure to limit feeds that some say are addictive. Gov. Kathy Hockle signed the bill on Thursday but it will not take effect immediately. The bill would limit the social media feeds of people under the age of 18 to posts from accounts they follow, rather than content suggested by automated algorithms. Tech industry trade groups have criticized the bill as an unconstitutional restriction on free speech.
Rapper Travis Scott was arrested after he was intoxicated and yelled at people on a yacht, according to Miami Beach police.
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Miami Beach police said rapper Travis Scott was arrested on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and public intoxication. Police said Scott was drunk and yelling at people on a yacht at the city's marina and refused to comply with orders to leave early Thursday. The hip-hop mogul, 33, posted $650 bail and was released before noon. His spokesman had no immediate comment. Ten people died after a crowd stampede at Scott's 2021 concert at Houston's Astroworld amusement park. The last of those cases was settled last month. After a police investigation, a grand jury dismissed the charges against Scott.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Kendrick Lamar wasn't content to just celebrate his victory after beating fellow rap superstar Drake last month. Stonehenge is now free of any visible damage from protest paint, and is cleaned up and ready to rock out for the summer solstice.
LONDON (AP) — Stonehenge's monument, thousands of years old, appears to remain intact after climate protesters were arrested for spraying it with orange paint. Nick Merriman, chief executive of English Heritage, said workers had cleaned the stones and found no visible damage to the nearly 4,500-year-old monument. The UNESCO World Heritage site was reopened early Friday and was expected to welcome thousands of worshippers celebrating the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. A 73-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were released on bail Thursday after being arrested the previous day on suspicion of criminal damage to property, damaging an ancient monument and preventing participation in lawful activity. Climate change activist group Just Stop Oil has been blamed.
Issey Miyake's Wind-Inspired Show Kicks Off Paris Fashion Week
PARIS (AP) — Sheer, origami-like sculptures drifting like spring seeds caught in the wind captured the essence of Issey Miyake's delicate, rich and elaborate presentation at Paris Fashion Week, one of the season's strongest shows. The breathtaking menswear display in “Up, Up, and Away” featured couture-like poetry, weightless textiles that floated like parachutes and kites. The clothes looked ready to take flight. In the cobblestone courtyard of the Mobilier National on Thursday morning, Homme Plissé took inspiration from all things that blow in the wind and transformed the elements into wearable art. The collection was a testament to the design house's ability to use innovative fabric techniques.
The Iberian lynx has been brought back from the brink of extinction thanks to conservation efforts.
MADRID (AP) — Things are looking up for the Iberian lynx. Nearly two decades ago, the pointy-eared wild cat was on the brink of extinction, but the International Union for Conservation of Nature said Thursday that it is no longer endangered. Thanks to successful conservation efforts, the animal, native to Spain and Portugal, is now barely vulnerable, according to the latest IUCN Red List. In 2001, there were just 62 adult Iberian lynxes — mottled brown cats with distinctive pointy ears and a pair of whisker-like tufts — on the Iberian Peninsula, but a recent survey of nature reserves found that there are now more than 2,000 adults and juveniles.
Baby moose trapped in lake is rescued by Alaskan man and police as worried mother watches over him
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska man and two police officers worked together to rescue a baby moose that was stuck between a floatplane and a pier on a lake. The Homer Police Department says the three men's actions saved the moose from “certain death.” Spencer Warren works for Wilderness Guide Services. He arrived on the scene Friday to prepare the floatplane and found the baby moose trapped. The mother moose was nearby with another baby moose and wouldn't allow Warren to get to the trapped moose. An officer eventually used his patrol car to hold off the mother moose, while Warren and another officer pulled the exhausted baby moose to safety.
Snapchat to pay $15 million to settle California discrimination and harassment lawsuit
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Snapchat will pay $15 million to settle a lawsuit brought by the California Department of Civil Rights, which accused the company of discriminating against female employees, failing to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace and retaliating against women who complained. The department announced Wednesday that the settlement will apply to women who worked for the company in California between 2014 and 2024. The settlement amount is pending court approval. Most of the money will provide compensation to employees who were discriminated against at the company. The company said it disagrees with the department's allegations but decided to settle to avoid costly and protracted litigation.
Climate protester arrested after spraying Stonehenge monument with orange paint
LONDON (AP) — Two climate change protesters have been arrested for spraying orange paint on the ancient Stonehenge site in southern England. Wiltshire police said the pair were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of damaging one of the world's most famous prehistoric sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chancellor Rishi Sunak called it a “disgraceful act of vandalism.” The incident occurred a day before thousands of people are expected to gather at the 4,500-year-old stone circle to celebrate the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The act was Just Stop Oil's latest move to draw attention to global warming.
Movie Review: “Biker Riders” Birth of Motorcycle Subculture
In the exhilarating first half of “Biker Riders,” writer-director Jeff Nichols is less concerned with building a story around the Vandals, a 1960s motorcycle gang, and more with conjuring an enchanting atmosphere reminiscent of the old photographs that inspired the film. “Biker Riders” eventually shoulders a heavier plot mechanism: the movie wants to ride bikes but isn't sure how much story to pack into the journey, Associated Press film writer Jake Coyle wrote in his review. But it's a vivid dramatization of the birth of an American subculture. “Biker Riders” opens in theaters Friday.
