Anson Resources and Koch Technology Solutions (KTS) will collaborate to test a new Li-Pro lithium selective adsorption pilot unit using brine at the Green River lithium project.
The new technology can potentially be used to process fresh brine under commercial production conditions to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate.
Results from the pilot unit will be used for process optimization and product validation with a view to future expansion to a proposed commercial-scale plant.
“Anson Resources is focused on accelerating the development of the Green River Lithium Project,” said Bruce Richardson, chief executive officer of Anson Resources.
“Partnering with KTS significantly reduces project risk through the company's advanced technology and engineering experience.”
The pilot unit is expected to start production in July 2024. Anson and KTS have agreed on a cost-sharing framework.
“Green River has the potential to become a significant domestic battery-grade lithium carbonate project in the United States,” said Martin Rizzo, commercial director for KTS Americas.
“The site's existing infrastructure and strategic location, combined with A1 Lithium's lithium extraction experience, will enable KTS to efficiently deliver and operate the Li-Pro pilot unit.”
“KTS is pleased to participate in this important opportunity in the U.S. domestic lithium supply chain.”
If the pilot work is successful, further costs could be covered through additional investment by KTS.
“At this stage of the Green River Lithium project, we are evaluating several technologies that can provide the company with the best outcome for extraction and downstream refinery into electric vehicle grade lithium carbonate,” Richardson said.
