Dr. Khaldon Sallam joins the pediatric department, Dr. Andrew Helt joins as an associate physician in intensive care and emergency medicine, and Dr. Mabruk Alafshuk and Dr. Michael Okoye join the hospital's team of physicians.

CKHA said it was “delighted” to welcome the new doctors, with CKHAT interim chief Zeke Milkovich saying in a statement: “Their diverse backgrounds and wealth of experience will further strengthen our ability to provide high-quality health care services to the residents of Chatham-Kent.”
“We look forward to them making a positive impact on our patients and the community.”
Dr Salam is a Paediatrician trained in Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine. Dr Salam has nearly 10 years of experience working as a Paediatrician in Syria, Qatar and Dubai.
His training includes fellowships in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the University of Calgary and McMaster University.
“Mr. Salam is excited to bring his expertise to CKHA and looks forward to contributing to improving patient care and outcomes. He and his family are delighted to call Ontario their new home,” the release stated.

“Working as a pediatrician brings great joy and fulfillment as it positively impacts the lives of children and their families,” Salam said.
“Every day at work has been the most incredibly rewarding of my life so far. CKHA has a reputation for providing comprehensive, compassionate care to children in the community and for having a collaborative teamwork and supportive work environment.”
Heldt joined CKHA’s Intensive Care Unit on a part-time basis in 2022, working as an on-call physician in the Intensive Care Unit, and has now formalised a full-time position in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department.
“Educated in Libya and trained in cardiology in the UK, Allafshuk is eager to continue his medical journey in Chatham-Kent. His passion for patient recovery and his dedication to providing exceptional care will make him an invaluable asset to CKHA's medical staff,” said CKHA.

“I chose Chatham as my second home because of its nature, great weather and warm people,” says Aravshuk. “I enjoy seeing patients and am excited to join CKHA as an internal medicine specialist. Nothing gives me more joy than seeing my patients get better.”
According to CKHA, Okoye brings expertise in internal medicine to CKHA after completing his medical training in Nigeria and Ireland.
Dr. Okoye is passionate about medical education and will be opening an internal medicine clinic in the community with a focus on pulmonary and general medicine, it has been announced. His dedication to the health of his patients and passion for medical learning will make him an invaluable asset to the medical and hospitalist teams at CKHA.
“Health is wealth and healthy lungs are wealth,” Okoye said.
