In a letter published June 12, Richard Westmoreland said he was unsure whether he should join the Democratic Party.
Complaining about the Democratic Party or lamenting whether or not you should be a Democrat is not going to help the Democratic Party. Each of us has a voice and we need to use it. We have the right to vote and we need to exercise that right.
I am not happy at all about the low Democratic turnout in the gubernatorial election when Jeff Landry wins and he and his allies begin to push their hateful agenda. Democrats are not weak, but we are tired.
We need the strength and courage of each of us. We need the courage within each of us to stand up for justice. Where are our modern-day Freedom Riders, Rosa Parks, and Gloria Steinems?
Please don't give up. We need your youth and energy. Let's not forget the huge mess President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had to clean up after ousting from the White House a man who was and remains unfit to be president.
Let's be strong and speak up. Let's email and call our elected officials and let them know what we think. And please, vote. If you're a smart and courageous Democrat who will lead us, we support you. We support diversity and equal rights. We are committed to finding better ways to care for our planet. Mr. Westmoreland, please join our party.
Remember that we are here for everyone and for freedom. That is the best way to live. You will not regret it.
