BALTIMORE — The Fourth of July is just a few days away, and as always, it's expected to be one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.
AAA has released their 2024 forecast.
State experts estimate that about 1.5 million Marylanders will be off work during the Independence Day holiday.
For the first time, the organization has expanded its forecast coverage to include the entire week of July 4th, as well as the Saturday before and the Sunday after.
The majority of Marylanders who use the roads (90%, or 1.3 million people) travel by car, up 4% from last year.
Meanwhile, gas prices are a few cents higher than last year compared to other states across the nation.
So that begs the question, when is the best time to travel? Here are AAA's suggestions:

That would mean roughly 103,500 people flying, a 5% increase from 2023.
