YYC Calgary International Airport is expecting a record number of travellers to board the plane this summer and has issued some tips to help passengers make their trip as smooth as possible.
Last year, 62,700 passengers per day flew through YYC. YYC said it expects a record 64,000 passengers per day to visit the airport in July and August. During the pandemic, it saw 57,700 passengers per day.
According to airport officials, some of the features available to YYC guests include an online reservation system to reserve parking in advance, an online reservation platform where travelers can reserve their spot in line at security checkpoints in advance, plenty of shopping and dining options, a kids' zone and quiet spaces for families to relax, and White Hat volunteers to guide travelers along the way.
Travelers are also advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates, plan ahead, and arrive early to allow plenty of time for check-in, baggage drop, and screening. YYC advises that domestic passengers arrive two hours before departure, and international passengers arrive three hours before departure.
To help you get through security quickly, YYC offers these tips:
Be prepared for security to scan your boarding pass. Place loose and small items such as coins, keys and earphones in your carry-on bag. Make sure liquids, aerosols and gels are in containers of 100ml or less. Place these items in 1 litre clear resealable plastic bags and place them in the bin, one bag per passenger. For families or passengers who need a little extra help at security, look for the Family/Special Assistance row. Unpack your computer and place it in the bin with nothing on top or bottom. Place the liquids bag in the bin with your laptop or place a sticker on your laptop to make it easy to identify the item after x-ray. Make sure all electronic devices, including cell phones, tablets and laptops, can be removed from their cases and turned on. At the end of screening, make sure you have not left anything behind, especially laptops, cell phones and other electronic devices. Most importantly, make sure all the items you collect and repack are yours.
Anyone returning to Canada from abroad should prepare for their arrival by having the proper travel documents, declaring all items purchased abroad, and being informed of items that are not permitted to cross the border, including cannabis.
Travelers flying into YYC can save time with pre-declaration, which allows them to make customs and immigration declarations up to 72 hours before arrival.
Those travelling to the US can also use an app called Mobile Passport Control (MPC) to reduce wait times and streamline processing.
Travelers are encouraged to visit yyc.com before their flight for all the information they need about traveling to and from Calgary International Airport.
