Beijing (VNA) – Xu Liping, director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's invitation to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Annual Meeting of New Champions for the second consecutive year demonstrates Vietnam's important role in the forum and Vietnam's prominent priority in China's foreign policy.
These fully reflect Vietnam's important leading role in the global economy, he told a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Beijing.
He argued that Vietnam is in the development process of the global economy and plays a pioneering role to some extent, making it a fitting host for the event.
According to statistics, Vietnam's economic growth rate is expected to reach 5.5% in 2023 and 6%-6.5% in 2024. This economic growth rate is very remarkable, he said, adding that it is relatively high among emerging Asian countries and reflects Vietnam's future potential and economic development, especially in the current context of global economic recovery.
“Vietnam's economic growth has boosted confidence in the recovery of the global economy, which is why it is so significant that Vietnam has been invited to the forum for the second consecutive time,” Xu said, asserting that this fully reflects the Vietnamese economy's contribution to the growth of the Asia-Pacific economy and even the global economy.
Regarding Prime Minister Trinh's speech at the opening plenary session of the conference, the scholar said the content of the speech was very rich, with many very positive points, giving strong confidence to the business and political circles participating in the forum. The issues raised by the Vietnamese Prime Minister reflect the Vietnamese leadership's accurate assessment of the development of the global economy.
He said the three proposals put forward by PM Trinh – developing the digital economy, promoting the green economy and developing human resources – are groundbreaking new development steps that Vietnam puts forward to boost global growth.
Xu also praised Prime Minister Trinh's three economic recovery measures proposed at the event, especially the institution-building measures in emerging economies.
Scholars say Trinh's appreciation for China's contributions to the global economy reflects the high level of strategic trust between China and Vietnam.
