Mandarin Restaurants will celebrate its 45th anniversary in Canada by offering free buffets at its restaurants across Ontario on July 1.
The popular Chinese buffet restaurant said it would allow entry on a first-come, first-served basis during seating hours from noon to 8pm, but would not be accepting reservations for dine-in on July 1.
In addition to the meal, customers will also be offered complimentary soft drinks, tea and coffee, Mandarin Restaurant said in a release.
Mandarin first came to Canada 45 years ago, opening a small a la carte restaurant in Brampton in 1979.
Mandarin currently operates 30 locations across Ontario, with more than 2,500 staff and 150 managing partners.
“When our family started Mandarin more than 40 years ago, we built our business on the principle of providing great food for everyone in an inviting space and ensuring our guests had a special time at our restaurant,” said James Chiu, president and co-founder of Mandarin Restaurants. “Now, all these years later, we're honored to see a new generation of families enjoying special moments at Mandarin, and we want to thank everyone who helped make it a success with our free Canada Day buffet event.”
The Canada Day buffet will feature more than 100 dishes, including popular noodle and rice dishes, a grill table, desserts and a prime rib counter.

People have been reacting to the announcement online.
“It's going to be busy,” Theresa Taylor Hussein wrote on Facebook about how busy the restaurant will be.
Kathleen Harmer suggested it was a kind gesture at a time when people are struggling to make ends meet.
“…Are you aware that there are people out there who have a roof over their head but barely any food in the house? Today is their day to be pampered with this feast and go home full. It's open to all. Times are tough for everyone,” she wrote.
