The opening ceremony for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge will be held on Sunday morning (June 30), with the new sea bridge set to open at 3pm.
Fannie Yan Shu-fang, secretary-general of the Tourism Industry Council, said the opening of the new bridge will make travel to the north more convenient, as Hong Kongers will no longer need to pass through Fumen when heading to Zhongshan.
The journey time could also be cut by an hour and a half to about 30 minutes, she added.
She also believes the new megalink could attract tourists from the Far North to Bay Area cities, including Hong Kong.
Timothy Chui Tien-pong, secretary-general of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, said five guided tours have already been organised on the opening day, involving more than 200 tourists travelling along the sea route.
The tour then visits Sun Yat-sen's former residence, has lunch and finally returns to Hong Kong across the bridge again on the same day.
Chui said tours from Hong Kong to Guangdong have received an overwhelming response this summer, with tourist numbers expected to double due to the shortened travel time.
The bridge passed its acceptance inspection on June 16th after seven years of construction.
The bridge is approximately 24 kilometers long, has eight lanes in both directions, and combines a series of bridges, islands, tunnels and underwater interchanges to link Shenzhen and Zhongshan.
