DoorDash is proud to support Toronto's Allan Gardens Food Bank through a donation from its Community Credit program as part of its efforts to combat food insecurity across Canadian communities.
DoorDash, thanks to a $5,000 Community Credit donation, is providing bulk orders of groceries and other essentials to Allan Gardens to help restock shelves and provide meals to weekly clients and meal delivery recipients supported by the food bank's community-led efforts.
“Supporting the impactful work of local organizations like Allan Gardens Food Bank through Community Credit is crucial to our mission of growing and empowering communities,” said Shilpa Arora, general manager, DoorDash Canada. “Spending the day alongside other volunteers delivering nutritious staples to hundreds of Torontonians was incredibly inspiring and highlighted the importance of increasing access to food for people experiencing food insecurity.”
Based at St. Luke United Church in Toronto, Allan Gardens Food Bank has a long history of social service in the community. The food bank currently provides meals to over 1,000 food insecure clients each week and also supports a feeding program that distributes an additional 600 meals per week. In addition to donations from Second Harvest and Daily Bread, the food bank also receives corporate donations from Farm Boy, Circle K, Boston Pizza, the Rotary Club of Toronto and the National Ballet of Canada.
“We at Allan Gardens Food Bank are so grateful for the donation from DoorDash,” said Allan Gardens Food Bank Executive Director Morgan Harris. “The Community Credit we received will go a long way in helping us purchase much-needed groceries, especially protein, for the approximately 1,400 local residents we serve each week.”
DoorDash's Community Credit program provides DoorDash gift cards to non-profit organizations that share the goal of improving access to food and essentials for people in their communities. In 2023 alone, the program distributed $128,500 in community credits to local organizations working to reduce food insecurity across Canada.
