Time is limited. Deciding what to watch can be tough. Stop Scrolling suggests movies and TV shows that might not be in your league, but are worth watching.
“When we're together, there's not much to do other than drink and have sex,” Kani Le said in the documentary Longest Third Date.
When Lee and Matt Robinson decided to fly to Costa Rica together on a whim, they had no idea the adventure they would embark on.
The couple met on a dating app and barely knew each other, but decided to throw away their caution and go on a quick five-day trip together.
But COVID-19 changed everything, turning their impromptu jaunt into a months-long journey that was physically and emotionally taxing.
Everything that happened between them was caught on camera, thanks to Les and Robertson, who documented all of the ups and downs as the couple navigated their unique circumstances.
On March 17, 2020, despite friends expressing concern that they were moving too quickly and warnings about the newly discovered coronavirus, the couple boarded a nearly empty plane from New York to begin their vacation.
After three days of enjoying ziplining and sipping cocktails at an all-inclusive resort, they learned their flight back to the U.S. had been canceled indefinitely.
In all, the couple spent 79 days not only building a new relationship, but also struggling to find living space after the resort closed, forcing Lee and Robertson to move into a series of Airbnb accommodations, including an open-air treehouse.
But as Les said, boredom combined with dealing with all the drama brought the two together in more ways than one, including physically.
The situation was further complicated by further fears that Li might be pregnant, followed by a serious accident when their rental car went off the road and fell into the lagoon.
At that point, Les says in the documentary, “I was like, 'I need to go home. I'm not having fun anymore.'”
At just 80 minutes long, the film obviously isn't a minute-by-minute chronicle of Lee and Robertson's months together, but it does provide enough to give us an idea of how they communicated and details a relationship that's unintentionally fast-forwarded through time.
They eventually got on a government-sponsored flight back to Houston, where they flew home, and from there they were able to board a flight to New York and resume their lives.
This documentary is also a great lesson in taking chances and realizing that many things are out of your control, including whether or not you will fall in love.
Will a prolonged third date lead to a relationship that lasts beyond that? Well, we won't give you any spoilers. Watch the movie. You'll probably never have a date like this again, but it's fun to follow the journey.
