Despite type 1 diabetes being a chronic autoimmune disease, its burden is often overlooked in public health discussions. Patients with type 1 diabetes are challenged not only to understand the pathophysiology of their disease as an essential part of optimal management, but also to keep abreast of advances in pharmacotherapies and technology.
This has resulted in patient support programs such as Blue Circle Health, which plays a vital role in the management team for people with diabetes. Provided free to patients with funding from the Helmsley Charitable Trust, the program is designed to provide free education and support programs in the form of diabetes support coaches, insurance navigation, peer coaching and special programs including programs to introduce patients to continuous glucose monitoring.
The program is currently limited to adults with type 1 diabetes living in Florida, but the company has announced plans to expand to other states. To participate, patients must:
Have a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes Be 18 years of age or older Speak English and/or Spanish Have access to the internet and a smartphone or computer so you can video call your care team Have a primary care physician or be willing to connect with one Not currently pregnant
