Slightly warmer weather expected across Sacramento over the weekend
Updated: June 28, 2024 5:44 AM PDT
So, it's Friday. Finally. So let's ask Tamara what's in store for us now. Yes, it's nice today. The temperatures are just rising a little bit. Nothing dramatic is going to happen this weekend. Nothing like last weekend. But we need to talk about some pretty intense heat for the start of July, which officially starts next Monday. But since it's Friday now, let's focus on the outlook. Beautiful view from Sutter Health Ballpark. The RiverCats are not in town this weekend. But they're back on July 1st, next Monday. And that day will eventually be the start of a heat wave. But right now, we're having a comfortable morning thanks to the Delta breeze. In the valley bottom, most of us are waking up in the low 60s. It's in the low 40s at Lake Tahoe, and those of you who are with us in the foothills will be waking up in the mid to upper 60s. Right now, in the 12-hour planner for Sacramento, temperatures are expected to be in the mid 70s Fahrenheit. It's still comfortable for a morning walk around the neighborhood. At that point, it's expected to be in the low 90s. By 2:00. Highs at our destination today will be approaching the mid 90s at the valley bottom. The 12-hour planner for the foothills expects sunny skies and low 80s by 10:00. By lunchtime, it's already in the mid 80s. Highs today will be in the low 80s. There are a few places around Auburn, Sonora, and Placerville where temperatures will rise to the low 90s. The Sierra forecast today is great. It won't be as windy as it has been the last two days. The next few days will be sunny with temperatures in the mid 70s. However, we will have a very warm weekend with pleasant mornings and evenings, but that will all change on Monday. Monday is when the heat wave begins. You'll notice in the 7-day forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Yes, we haven't had a stretch of impact days in such a long time. Because we've got some pretty serious heat buildup in the area. Let's look at July 1st. Here's the forecast pattern for Monday. The ridge of high pressure is still a little bit off center. So it's not in Northern California at this point yet. It's going to be a pretty hot day as the north winds start to pick up. And then as we get into Tuesday and Wednesday, the ridge continues to close in on us. And as it does, the heat will continue to intensify by the day. So as we get into the forecast for later next week, we'll continue to work out the details. But what we know right now in the 7-day forecast is that at least on Monday, we'll have highs reaching 100 degrees and the heat will spread. As we get past Monday, we'll see temperatures increase to 103 degrees on Tuesday, 106 degrees on Wednesday, and still hot at 105 degrees for the Independence Day holiday. So, by any standards, we're in for some pretty intense heat next week. I also need to reschedule my outdoor plans and include a vacation day next Thursday. That's pretty wild. Tamara, thanks for accommodating, Hotspot. Now,
