A few days ago, a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) of Telangana Police outwitting a driver went viral on the internet. The video shows two passengers on a scooter. On noticing the presence of a “cop” on the road, the driver quickly parks the vehicle on the side of the road, puts on his helmet and resumes driving. However, on approaching the “cop,” the passengers realise that the “cop” is a realistic, two-dimensional cardboard cutout placed on the road to stop rule-breakers.

From a distance, one could easily mistake this cutout for a real police officer.

According to Deccan Chronicle, the Karimnagar police have installed cutouts of traffic policemen and patrol vehicles on the national highway from Karimnagar to Vemulawada to mark the presence of policemen on duty.
The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness about traffic rules and regulations and minimise the number of accidents on highways. The fear of being caught by the police will encourage people to follow rules such as wearing helmets and avoiding drinking and driving.
Since being shared on X, the post has garnered 28,000 views, over 3,700 likes, and several comments.
Let's see what people are sharing about this creative tactic adopted by the Telangana Police.

Matty commented: “I know it's funny, but it's actually a terrifying social science concept called the panopticon – a perpetual state of fear that someone is watching you at all times.”
