Fifteen Windsor-Essex schools have achieved National Healthy Schools Accreditation.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit released the names of those schools this week.
The National Healthy Schools Accreditation Scheme recognises school communities that promote the health and wellbeing of staff, students and the community at large. Last school year, more than 280,000 students from 392 schools across Canada participated in the accreditation process, forming health committees to identify priorities such as healthy eating, physical activity, injury prevention, growth and development, and substance use awareness and prevention.
Six schools are part of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board: Catholic Central High School, Notre Dame Catholic School, St. Anne French Immersion Catholic School, St. Andre French Immersion Catholic School, Stella Maris Catholic School and W.J. Langrua Catholic School all achieved gold-level accreditation.
In the Greater Essex County School District, James L. Dunn Public School, W.F. Herran Academy Elementary School, Tecumseh Vista Academy Elementary and Middle School and Riverside Middle School also received gold-level certification.
The other four schools to receive this honor are part of the Providence Board of Education Catholic Schools Association: Ecole elementaire catholique Monseigneur Augustin-Caron, Ecole elementaire catholique Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Ecole elementaire catholique Sainte-Therese were awarded gold-level certification, while Essault Catholic Secondary School was recognized.
