At least nine people, including three children, have been killed in western Nepal after heavy monsoon rains triggered a landslide, officials said on Saturday.

A family of five was asleep when the landslide swept away their home in Mallika village in Gulmi district, about 250 kilometers west of Kathmandu, said Dizan Bhattarai, spokesman for the National Disaster Relief and Mitigation Management Authority.

“The bodies of all five have been recovered,” Bhattarai told Reuters, adding that the family also included two children.
In neighbouring Syangja district, a woman and her three-year-old daughter were killed in a landslide that washed away their house, while two people were killed in another landslide in Baglung district neighbouring Gulmi.
