The assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump is a dark chapter in the history of American democracy, Indian Americans across the country said, condemning the heinous attack on the Republican presidential nominee.
Trump, 78, was shot above his right ear in a gun attack at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

“Today we learnt about the assassination attempt on (former) President Trump. This is extremely sad and is not the kind of violence we expect in a democracy,” prominent Indian-American community leader Dr Bharat Barai told PTI.
“People have different opinions. They have different political views, they have different economic views. Of course, they have to be expressed at the ballot box,” Barai said.
“The extreme hatred that sees it appropriate to kill political opponents is completely condemnable,” he said.
“This is a dark chapter in American democracy,” Jesudip Singh Jassie, chairman of a Sikh group that supports Trump, told news agency PTI.
“We pray for his safety and recovery. We condemn this act and appeal to America to unite behind President Trump. Shah Waheguru blesses President Trump and America,” he said.
“All angles and details need to be thoroughly investigated,” said Ajay Bhutria, the Democratic Party’s deputy national finance chairman and a strong supporter of Joe Biden. “Was this a plot by a foreign entity to sow discord and division among Americans of different political persuasions and pose a threat to our national security?”
“Violence should never take place in our democracy,” he said.
“No amount of attacks on Trump, the Republican nominee, can stop him from winning the presidency again,” said Al Mason, a New York-based real estate investor and friend of the Trump family.
