I'm not kidding… Today I want to talk about People In Need Today (Pint). This London-based grassroots charity started 17 years before him, but not enough people talk about its amazing work.
One of the founders, Shi, was a music manager, so he spent time in community centers and public lands, looking for young people and talent to mentor.
He increasingly saw children spending time on the streets later than scheduled. It quickly became clear that these children had nowhere to go. I spent the night on the street and changed into my school uniform the next morning. They often cannot return home because they have abusive fathers or addicted mothers. That's how Pint started.
The charity began reaching out to these children, providing them with hot meals, guidance and support. Eventually, the children's lives began to improve and they began to say, “I just ate it today, so give it to that person over there.''
Shi told me: “These kids showed us how bad it was. We supported everyone as much as we could, one or two days a week. One day, there were 11 outside the studio. There was a line of people, and that affected us a lot.”
Eventually they decided to run the charity full-time with volunteers. As you walk around town, look for vulnerable people to help. Honestly, there's nothing more practical than this. They consistently feed 600 to 700 people a week and help victims of domestic violence, clothing, and anything else available that could be helpful to someone looking to start over.
There was a time in my life when I was homeless.During my darkest days, I didn't have a penny and I didn't have a bed to sleep on.
As you may already know, there was a time when I was homeless. During my darkest days, I didn't have a penny and I didn't have a bed to sleep on. Despite being in the depths of addiction, he managed to continue working. He showed up to some stinking gig, took the money, and blew it all on drugs.
The epidemic of homelessness we see today is steadily worsening. I was clearly an addict, but it's important to understand that it's not the majority. Hailing from Pint, they meet a former engineer, doctor and police officer who have lived rough lives. Most of them are not under the influence of addiction, they just have had a hard time in life.
My request today is for you to show a little more time and compassion to this cause. Search Pint Giving on social to see for yourself the amazing work we do every day. Donate money, goods, or time.
As I always say, you never know if that homeless person will one day save someone's life.
We all know the nightmarish stories of charity giants spending very little actual money on helping individuals. That can deter us from helping. Well, here I'm talking about a charity where everything is given back to the community in the most caring way.
I'm so happy to be able to use my platform for this. We all have a platform these days, no matter how big or small, so let's use it. Please spread the word about their great work. Even better if you can share a pound or two.
Exciting announcements in London are always welcome
I don't really talk about my gigs here. With the Ibiza season starting and the Glastonbury gig just announced, we thought we'd take a moment to let you know what we'll be doing in London this week.
12 years ago, I was invited to perform at SushiSamba's opening party at Heron Tower. Well, I'm excited to share that I've been invited back to the launch of a new space. It has been completely renovated and looks great. As I've evolved over the years and now the space has evolved, it's great to be invited to be a part of something. You should go and check it out.
New and exciting spaces in London are always welcome. See you next Wednesday.
