There is strong demand for travel to destinations across the United States, with travel volume steadily increasing as we head into the summer season, a new study reveals. The North American region accounts for the largest share of travelers and ranks in the top three most searched destinations.
According to the latest study on travel trends conducted by Amadeus in collaboration with the United Nations Tourism Organization, the main departure points for searches for travel to North America were the United States, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. The region also ranked in the top three most searched destinations: New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles.
In Central America, the United States was the largest market for searches for travel to Central America. This was followed by Canada and the United Kingdom, with Costa Rica emerging as the most searched destination in the region. Search volume was slightly lower than the average search volume for the Americas. As origin markets, North America and South America provide the largest air transport capacity to Central America, with North America accounting for 66% of air traffic arriving in Central America.
New York City was one of the most searched destinations in the Americas.
Argentina and Brazil are rising in popularity as the most searched destinations in South America. The top three searched destinations in the Americas were Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Santiago. Search volume was slightly higher than the average search volume for the Americas. Most international flight arrivals are from North America, Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean.
In the Caribbean region, the United States, Argentina, and France occupied the top three most searched destinations, with Punta Cana emerging as the most searched destination. Search volume is similar to average search volume in the Americas, indicating solid growth from 2023. Overall, North America and Europe have the most air capacity, with 77% and 13% of seats coming from North America and Europe, respectively.

The United States emerged as the most searched destination. From May to August, travelers from the UK and Germany contributed to the top search volume for North America.
The most booked destinations were New York City, Cancun, Orlando, Los Angeles, and Miami.
According to data from the United Nations Tourism Office, around 1.3 billion international tourists were recorded worldwide in 2023, an increase of 34% from 2022 figures. International tourist arrivals to the Americas increased by 90% from pre-pandemic levels in 2023.
According to data from Amadeus, travel searches jumped 132% between May and August this year compared to the same period in 2023. Air travel indicators for the same period revealed that airlines are responding to this travel demand, with air capacity from May to August soaring 111% versus 2023 volumes.
Hotel occupancy rates started at around 25% from May to August, impacted by shorter booking lead times, with 44% of travelers booking hotel accommodations within a week of arrival. A slight decline is expected in subsequent weeks.
