Sydney achieved its goal this week, taking the title of the world's fourth safest city for travelers. Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) has released its annual Travel Insurance Safe Destinations Report, ranking the top 15 safest cities in the world to travel to.
Reykjavik took third place ahead of Sydney, followed by Montreal in second place and Honolulu in first place.
To determine these rankings, BHTP looks at responses from travelers visiting the destinations to a State of Travel Insurance survey compiled in September, as well as safety concerns such as terrorism, weather emergencies, and health precautions. The report also reveals the 15 safest countries overall for travelers, with Australia ranked 10th as the safest country to travel to in the world. The 2024 list saw some big changes from 2023, the most notable being Canada breaking into the top five and taking the lead. Just be careful of moose.

The list has traditionally been dominated by English-speaking countries in Scandinavia, Northern Europe and Oceania, but this year Asian and South American countries have made the top 15, with Japan and Brazil also making the list.
