The U.S. Department of State has issued a warning to all Americans traveling abroad – be careful.
The warning comes as tensions around the world are rising and anti-American sentiment is rising.
This is unusual as warnings are usually issued for a specific area or region and not globally, creating a sense of security.
We currently have wars in Ukraine and Gaza, terrorist attacks in the Middle East, and protests on American college campuses, not to mention problems in Haiti and elsewhere.
The warning also mentions potential violence against the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride Month will soon begin on June 1st. The State Department is urging caution as many related parades and events are scheduled to take place. The ministry is concerned that foreign terrorist organizations may try to sabotage the incident.
It also asks travelers to sign up for STEP, the Smart Traveler Registration Program, to receive real-time information and alerts.
“We recognize the increased potential for violence against LGBTQI+ people and events inspired by foreign terrorist organizations and advise U.S. citizens abroad to exercise increased caution. ” the warning says.
