There's no doubt that the travel industry has been hit hard during the pandemic.
After enduring harsh criticism and devastating losses that many thought were insurmountable, we are pleased to report that the cruise industry is once again the fastest growing industry, driven by surging demand from travelers new and old.
There have been significant changes in technology, design and marketing for many suppliers. Gone are the days of trying to appeal to all consumers. Today, niche marketing rules. There truly is a ship that appeals to each sector of the travel industry. From huge “destination” ships boasting a wide variety of activities, restaurants and entertainment, to luxurious, intimate small ship experiences embodying the finest cuisine and unique itineraries.
New to the market and expertly designed with specific consumers in mind, Explora Journeys is a shining star for the MSC Group.
“Immersed in the Sea” is the motto of this business module, where staff are dedicated to helping guests reconnect with what matters most during their vacation. The ship, Explora, has 461 staterooms, all with ocean-facing terraces, ranging in size from 400 square feet to an astounding 3,000 square foot “Owner's Residence” with a private infinity whirlpool.
I had the opportunity to sail on the Explora from Panama City to Barbados in February. From the moment we stepped on board, the Explora difference was clear. Understated luxury and attention to detail permeated every aspect of the ship's design and layout. It felt more like a lovely boutique hotel than a cruise ship. The cabins utilized every inch of space, providing both efficiency and luxury. I loved the Dyson hairdryers, plush bathrobes and slippers, and well-stocked minibars.
Although the ship can only accommodate a maximum of 900 passengers, it is large enough to entice guests with four separate pool areas, a large outdoor fitness/games area, a state-of-the-art fitness studio, and an excellent spa center offering an incredible variety of services.
Dining on Explora is exceptional. Five restaurants are included in the all-inclusive cruise fare: Sakura, Marble & Co., Med Yacht Club, Fil Rouge and Emporium Market. Each restaurant serves cuisine that rivals fine dining restaurants around the world. In-suite dining is also available (included in the fare). There is also a gelato, creperie and snack café. Anthology is the only option at an additional cost, and is the ultimate gourmet experience, featuring a 7-course meal prepared by a Michelin guest chef.
The finest spirits and classically trained bartenders will have you relaxed and intoxicated in a good mood. The entire staff is friendly, attentive and ready to help in any way possible.
Currently, Explora Journeys has only one ship in operation. Explora 2 is due to launch soon in August 2024, followed by four more ships by 2028.
Who is Explora for? Those seeking sophisticated luxury, spacious living, premium food and beverage and secluded itineraries with overnights in port; busy executives with limited time; those looking to relax in elegant surroundings but still be connected when they need to; those wanting a vacation that rejuvenates rather than exhausts.
Current promotions include a €300 onboard credit for those booking through 31 July 2024.
