At least 41 people, including an Indian national, were killed and more than 50 injured when a fire broke out in a workers' housing complex in the southern Kuwaiti city of Mangaf on Wednesday, June 12. According to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, some 43 people were hospitalized as a result of the fire, four of whom died.
Around 160 employees from the same company were reportedly living in the building. The incident happened at 6 a.m. local time (3 a.m. GMT), Maj. Gen. Eid Rashid Hamad said.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar expressed his condolences on his social media account X (formerly Twitter). He posted: “Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait City. Reports indicate that over 40 people have died and over 50 are hospitalised. The Ambassador has reached the camp. We are awaiting further information. My deepest condolences go to the families of those who tragically lost their lives. I pray for a speedy and complete recovery for those injured. The Embassy will provide maximum assistance to all concerned in this regard.”
