According to reports, a fire broke out in a workers' accommodation building in Mangaf, southern Kuwait, early on Wednesday, killing at least 41 workers, including several from India.
The building housed about 160 employees of the company. The incident happened at 6 a.m. local time (3 a.m. GMT), Maj. Gen. Eid Rashid Hamad said.
Prime Minister Modi offered his heartfelt condolences and expressed his deep grief over the tragedy. In a tweet, he wrote, “Sadly witnessed by the fire incident in Kuwait city. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for a speedy recovery for those injured. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is closely monitoring the situation and is working with the authorities on the ground to provide assistance to those affected.”
