Senator Fetterman was at fault for the accident for speeding.
PHILADELPHIA (TNS) — A Maryland State Police report found Sen. John Fetterman was “at fault” in a recent car accident in Maryland on Sunday that found he was speeding and ended up rear-ending another vehicle.
Fetterman, a Pennsylvania Democrat, his wife, Gisele, and the other driver, a Pennsylvania woman, were taken to the hospital after the crash, which occurred around 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Both vehicles — Fetterman's Chevrolet Traverse and the woman's Chevrolet Impala — were towed after Fetterman allegedly passed the woman's car at a “high rate of speed, well above the speed limit.”
Fetterman crashed into a vehicle just before an exit for Interstate 68 in Hancock, Maryland, between Pennsylvania and West Virginia, where the speed limit is 70 miles per hour.
The police report states that both victims were “impaired.” No fines were issued and the Maryland State Police are investigating. Neither Fetterman nor the woman were tested for alcohol or drugs.
Jason Boebert pleaded guilty to endangering a family member in January
DENVER (TNS) — Jason Boebert, the ex-husband of Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Garfield County District Court to endangering driving in separate cases related to a family dispute, court records show.
Boebert, 43, originally faced six charges for separate confrontations with his ex-wife and their 18-year-old son in early January.
Other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement, according to court records. Boebert was sentenced to six months unsupervised probation for the misdemeanor, fined $40 and ordered to pay court costs.
Police were first called to Miner's Complaint restaurant in Silt on January 6th after an argument between Jason and U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert occurred and Jason called police to report a “domestic violence” incident, claiming his ex-wife had punched him in the nose.
According to police reports, suspect Jason Boebert refused to leave the restaurant when police arrived and later recanted his domestic violence allegations.
In that incident, he was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and third-degree trespassing for making offensive gestures, but all charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.
Boebert was arrested at her home in suburban Silt around 1 a.m. on January 9. According to previous reports, Boebert's 18-year-old son told police that his father came home drunk, got into an argument and shoved his son, after which Boebert grabbed a rifle and ran outside.
Boebert was charged with harassment, third-degree assault, endangerment and prohibited use of a weapon for possessing a firearm while intoxicated. She pleaded guilty to endangerment and the other charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
S&P 500, Nasdaq hit all-time highs on CPI, Fed
NEW YORK (Reuters) – The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite Indexes closed at record highs for a third straight day after a weaker-than-expected inflation reading, but the indexes fell from the daily highs at the close after the Federal Reserve forecast just one interest rate cut this year.
The Fed's March outlook included three quarter-percentage-point rate cuts. In its statement at the end of its meetings on June 11 and 12, the central bank also said it would keep interest rates steady, as expected.
Stocks were volatile following the news and press conference from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq trimming gains in late trading and the Dow finishing roughly flat.
Democrat Sarah McBride could become first transgender member of the US House of Representatives
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democrat Sarah McBride could become the first transgender person elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 5 after her rival in the heavily Democratic state of Delaware dropped out of the race on Wednesday.
McBride, a Delaware state representative, has a clear field of contenders in the Sept. 10 primary after former Delaware State Housing Authority Director Eugene Young withdrew from the race. Other candidates have until July 8 to enter the race.
A victory in November's election would mark a milestone in the acceptance of transgender people in American culture, as the fight over transgender rights has become a flashpoint of partisan battle in a deeply divided country.
Amtrak to set new passenger numbers record in 2024
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. passenger rail operator Amtrak said on Wednesday it expects passenger numbers this year to exceed pre-COVID-19 levels for the first time and hit a record high despite reduced capacity.
Ridership increased 20% during the first seven months of Amtrak's budget year, which began Oct. 1, and ticket revenues increased 10% compared with the same period in 2023, according to written testimony Amtrak CEO Steven Gardner will submit at a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee hearing on Wednesday.
“We are on track to serve more than 32.3 million passengers in 2019, our highest passenger numbers ever,” Gardner said in written testimony.
Amtrak passenger numbers increased 45% from 2003 to 2019, to 32.3 million.
