Barrie Police confirm there was an explosion involving a vehicle in a parking lot of an apartment complex at 108 A Anne Street North early Wednesday.
Posts by individuals on social media reported a blast around 3 a.m.
Police spokesperson Peter Leon confirmed it was at about that time that first responders were alerted about an incident in the area of Anne Street North near Edgehill Drive.
He said it’s believed an improvised explosive device (IED) was placed on the car.
Portions of the IED were located nearby and detonated by police.
Minor damage to the vehicle, according to Leon, while a car parked next to also sustained “some damage.”
Nobody was injured.
Leon said that resources from the Ontario Provincial Police have assisted with the investigation.
At least one apartment building has been evacuated, while residents living in the area had been asked to shelter in place, though Leon said that it was done as a precautionary measure.
A number of roads remain closed.
